The substances, medatomidine and dexmedatomidine, classified as anesthetic drugs, are being added to the unregulated drug supply, leading to unconsciousness, breathing difficulties, and significant drops in heart rate and blood pressure. Naloxone may not be effective, but its use is recommended in case of potential opioid presence. The alert follows Belleville's state of emergency due to overdose-related hospitalizations. Sault Ste. Marie Police have also charged someone with manslaughter in connection to an overdose death involving fentanyl.✅ .
