👉Congenital cytomegalovirus (CMV) is "in the herpes group of viruses," according to Dr Ari Bitnun, a pediatric infectious disease specialist at Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children. Roughly one in 200 babies born in Canada today will have a virus that can lead to hearing loss, intellectual disability, or vision loss. However, it’s only Saskatchewan and Ontario that are screening newborns for CMV.
