Canada Updates Study Permit Financial Requirements: Increased Cost-of-Living and Student Direct Stream (SDS) GIC Guidelines
✅The Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has announced updates to financial requirements for study permit applicants, including changes to the Student Direct Stream (SDS) guaranteed investment certificate (GIC) guidelines. Effective January 1, 2024, the cost-of-living financial requirement for study permit applicants will be elevated to better prepare international students for life in Canada. For studying in Québec, applicants must demonstrate financial capacity covering tuition fees, transportation, and living expenses, with varying amounts based on age and the number of individuals in the application. Settlement fees for the first year are set at $500 Canadian, and applicants must prove the ability to cover health and hospital insurance costs for the entire stay in Québec for themselves and accompanying family members. . .
