👉Alberta announces the expansion of its newborn screening program, now testing for 26 medical conditions, up from 22, ensuring better health outcomes for newborns in the province. Premier Danielle Smith emphasized the importance of providing quick answers and certainty to new parents regarding their baby's health. The Alberta Newborn Screening Program, which already achieved a 99% screening rate in the 2022-23 fiscal year, aims to become one of the most comprehensive programs in the country. Additionally, support is provided for women's health research through the Alberta Women’s Health Foundation Legacy grant. This funding will aid research on cervical cancer, heart disease, and other common women’s health conditions. Resources will also be allocated to the Calgary Health Foundation for a rapid access clinic and pelvic floor health projects.
