đŸ‘‰Ontario has joined seven other provinces in making an announcement that it will cease the practice of detaining migrants for administrative reasons in provincial jails. Recent reports indicated that Quebec and New Brunswick had already terminated their contracts with the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), which involved the payment for detaining foreign nationals under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act. Consequently, human rights organizations and immigration lawyers urged Ontario, where the highest number of migrants were detained by the CBSA, to take similar action. On Thursday, Ontario Solicitor General Michael Kerzner informed federal Public Safety Minister Marco Mendicino that the province was cancelling its contract as well. These agreements require a one-year notice period for cancellation.✅ . . #MigrantDetentionReform #HumanRights #ImmigrationJustice #EndDetentionContracts #OntarioAnnouncement #ProvincialJailReform #CBSAContractCancellation #mnm #malayalisnearmeapp #canadaupdate #canadanews
