๐Ÿ‘‰Ontario has joined seven other provinces in making an announcement that it will cease the practice of detaining migrants for administrative reasons in provincial jails. Recent reports indicated that Quebec and New Brunswick had already terminated their contracts with the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), which involved the payment for detaining foreign nationals under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act. Consequently, human rights organizations and immigration lawyers urged Ontario, where the highest number of migrants were detained by the CBSA, to take similar action. On Thursday, Ontario Solicitor General Michael Kerzner informed federal Public Safety Minister Marco Mendicino that the province was cancelling its contract as well. These agreements require a one-year notice period for cancellation.โœ… . . #MigrantDetentionReform #HumanRights #ImmigrationJustice #EndDetentionContracts #OntarioAnnouncement #ProvincialJailReform #CBSAContractCancellation #mnm #malayalisnearmeapp #canadaupdate #canadanews

๐Ÿ‘‰Despite promises to end immigration detention agreements, Ontario and Quebec are reconsidering their stance at the request of the federal government. Ontario, which planned to stop incarcerating migrants for the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) on June 15, has extended its agreement for 45 days. Quebec, initially set to end detention on June 30, is in discussions with Ottawa following a $750 million offer to support asylum seeker services. Both provinces are negotiating continued use of provincial jails for migrant detention, with Quebec potentially extending for 18 months.โœ… . . #Trudeau #Immigration #MigrantDetention #Ontario #Quebec #CBSA #CanadaPolitics #HumanRights #AsylumSeekers #mnm #malayalisnearmeapp #canadaupdate #canadanews

๐Ÿ‘‰A foreign student, who was initially granted a study permit but later refused an extension due to his HIV-positive status, is now challenging Canadaโ€™s medical inadmissibility rules. Despite a good prognosis, his extension was denied, prompting him to question Canadaโ€™s openness. Living in fear of judgment and rejection due to his sexual orientation, he saw acceptance by a Toronto college as a chance to start anew, away from his life in the Philippines and out of the closet.โœ… . . #HIVPositive #StudyPermit #MedicalInadmissibility #CanadaImigrationm #LGBTQRights #HumanRights #ImmigrationPolicy #StudyInCanada #OpenCanada #mnm #malayalisnearmeapp #canadaupdate #canadanews

๐Ÿ‘‰As Canada's housing crisis deepens, provinces struggle to acknowledge housing as a human right. While Prince Edward Island has legislation recognizing it, critics say it lacks enforcement. The federal housing advocate, Marie-Josรฉe Houle, urges all provinces to adopt similar laws. Dale Whitmore of the Canadian Centre for Housing Rights stresses the need for eviction protections and rent regulation. Provinces like Quebec and Manitoba remain ambiguous in their responses. Houle emphasizes the importance of a human rights-based approach, focusing on people's needs rather than imposing solutions. The failure to act, she warns, perpetuates systemic homelessness.โœ… . ๐Ÿ‘‰Canadian students, who received fake offer letters from Jalandhar-based travel agent Brijesh Mishra and his associates, are protesting their deportation. The students argue that they are not responsible for the fake documents they were given and question how Canadian authorities were able to detect their fraudulent nature when the embassy that issued their study visas did not. Manraj Preet Sidhu, a legal advisor based in Canada, is representing a physically challenged student who is facing deportation despite completing her studies, due to a fake offer letter. Sidhu asserts that Mishra's sub-agents are enticing unsuspecting students from rural areas in Punjab with fraudulent admission offers, and governments must take action to curb the illegal activities of such agents and protect the future of these vulnerable students.โœ… . . #StudentDeportation #Canada #Protest #Education #Immigration #InternationalStudents #HumanRights #Justice #mnm #malayalisnearmeapp #canadaupdate #canadanews
