Canada Sees Decline in Spousal Sponsorship Immigration for Second Consecutive Month
โ Spousal sponsorship immigration to Canada has declined for the second month in a row, with a 12.8% drop in March. Only 4,810 spouses and common-law partners became permanent residents, down from 5,515 in February. By the end of Q1, Canada welcomed 17,235 new residents through this program, 31.6% less than last year's Q1 total of 25,345. Ontario saw the highest numbers but still experienced a decline. If this trend continues, Canada may only see 69,300 new residents via spousal sponsorship in 2024, a 7.9% drop from last year. .
