Ontario pumps $1.2B into colleges and universities, extends tuition freeze
โ Ontario is injecting over $1.2 billion into colleges and universities to stabilize finances, announced Minister of Colleges and Universities Jill Dunlop. The move follows a government-commissioned report highlighting financial threats due to low provincial funding and a tuition freeze since 2019. Despite recommendations for a tuition hike, Dunlop extended the freeze for in-province students until at least 2026-2027, while allowing up to a five per cent increase for domestic, out-of-province students. Additionally, a new bill mandates mental health and anti-discrimination policies on campuses and enhances fee transparency.
