Over 200,000 International Student Work Permits to Expire by 2025, PR Pathway Challenged
โ More than 200,000 international students in Canada will see their postgraduation work permits (PGWPs) expire by 2025, complicating their transition to permanent residency (PR). Recent changes to immigration policies, including the end of pandemic-era extensions, have made it harder for PGWP holders to obtain PR. Nearly 70,000 permits will expire by the end of 2024. Although the Express Entry system once made PR attainable for international graduates, the increasing number of applicants and changes in policy have created new hurdles. There are currently 471,810 PGWP holders, triple the number from 2018. .
