๐Canada's recruitment of international students has heavily favored business programs over healthcare and skilled trades, reveals data obtained by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada. From 2018 to 2023, business-related programs accounted for 27% of all study permits, while only 6% were for health sciences and a mere 1.25% for trades and vocational training. Experts argue that this approach fails to address the country's pressing labor needs. Rupa Banerjee, an associate professor at Toronto Metropolitan University, criticizes the lack of oversight, highlighting the mismatch between international student recruitment and Canada's labor market demands.โ
