Canada's $48M Initiative to Safeguard Temporary Foreign Workers
โ Canada is intensifying measures to protect temporary foreign workers through a $48 million investment over two years. Managed by Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC), the initiative aims to enhance employer compliance with the Temporary Foreign Worker Programme (TFWP) rules. The funding will support hiring more inspectors, maintaining a worker protection tip line, and implementing rapid response mechanisms. In 2023, ESDC issued $2.1 million in penalties and conducted 2,122 inspections, finding 94% of employers compliant. The government also banned 12 employers from the program. Workers can report abuse via a confidential, multilingual tip line or an online tool. .
