Canada Targets Employers Violating Temporary Foreign Worker Program Rules
โ Canada is intensifying efforts to penalize employers who violate the Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP) rules, issuing $2.7 million in fines last year against 194 non-compliant employers. Some have also been suspended from hiring temporary foreign workers to protect newcomers from exploitation. Under TFWP, employers must adhere to strict obligations, including meeting requirements of the Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA), terms of the LMIA decision letter, and Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations (IRPR). They must keep relevant records for six years and immediately report any changes to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), including changes in worker conditions or LMIA errors.
